"We Love You, Liz" - Remembering Elizabeth Taylor with Art -
An Art Happening by Tra` Slaughter
Elizabeth Taylor was a cultural icon and a pioneer in bringing AIDS awareness to the public eye. On Saturday, May 28th from 6 - 9 pm, the Houston art community will honor her life and legacy with 'We love you, Liz... Remembering Elizabeth Taylor with art', an art show featuring remembrances and tributes to the violet-eyed silver screen legend from more than forty of Houstons' up-and-coming artists. 25-100% of sales from the show will benefit Legacy Community Health Services.
The show was a huge success, with over 40 artists participating and an attendance of over 200 people. This was the first "art happening" produced and curated by Tra` Slaughter. Artwork was showcased by not only local Houston artists but artists from the East and West coast also presented artwork. All of the artwork created was based upon Elizabeth Taylor. From portraits to working art installations, it was all there. |

"Sweaty. Sultry. Sandy" - An Art Happening by Tra` Slaughter
This happening was a welcoming of Summer via art and fashion! In addition to artwork being showcased by 30+ houston artists, including photography, painting and sculpture, Tra` Slaughter & Shadi Farahani created 18 different post-apocalyptic fashion ensembles all from donated or found clothing and items. Halfway through the art happening, caution tape was put up to create a makeshift runway, and the models strutted their stuff through the gallery and spilled out onto Main St. It was quite a scene. Directly following the fashion show, the Bat City Bombshells http://batcitybombshells.com/. The happening had an attendance of over 400 people... one of the largest shows to date at War'hous Visual Studios.

"Claws. Claus. Clause" - An Art Happening by Tra` Slaughter
Claws. Claus. Clause. was not only an art show, but in addition to that, Tra` Slaughter, Sean McWilliams and Dom Bam wrote, produced and directed a play, "Claus. Claws. Clause". The play was based on the 364 days of the year when Santa Claus is just another guy trying to get by. The play begins on Christmas night, with Santa and Mrs. Claus reviewing the naughty and nice list, when suddenly Santa receives a phone call from his Mistress, Mistress Claws. The play progresses with Santa appearing in a strip club, fornicating and participating. Drug use was rampant, breasts were bared, and a party ensued! Ultimately, Mrs. Claus takes Santa to court along with Mistress Claws in hopes to gain control of the North Pole and Christmas. They were granted that, but only for 364 days... after all, what would Christmas be without Santa?!
The happening was a great success with attendance reaching nearly 300 people, and a great time was had by all! |
